About the ANKARIS ARCHIVE:

This is a traditional oil painting project I started in 2001 inspired by ship breaking but on a scale that dwarfs our sea going equivalents. As a film matte painter and concept artist I'm highly influenced by cinema - in this instance - David Leans, Lawrence Of Arabia.

The goal is to create a large format book which may include short stories, archaeological records, notes, historical setting and of course the paintings.

Wayne Haag is an Australian painter and film artist whose work explores fictional archaeology, industrial memory and speculative landscape.

His external industry work includes: Digital matte painting on The Fifth Element, Red Corner, Farscapethe TV series,The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, Knowing, The Greatest Showman.
